Information Processing in Medical Imaging (IPMI) review

by Richard Droste

This year’s international conference on Information Processing in Medical Imaging (IPMI) was hosted at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), marking the 50th anniversary of the scientific meeting and its first visit to Asia.

Richard Droste presented his work titled “Ultrasound Image Representation Learning by Modeling Sonographer Visual Attention”, one of the 68 papers accepted at the conference, and was joined by co-authors Prof. Alison Noble and Yifan Cai. The conference has a strong traditional focus on scientific discussions, which was very much felt at the lively poster session and beyond, where the paper sparked interesting conversations with fellow researchers.

Proceedings have been published as a volume in the Springer Lecture Notes Computer Science (LNCS) series. The conference proceedings are now available here: https://ipmi2019.cse.ust.hk/conference.html

Flipbook available here: https://fliphtml5.com/evnpu/iubz

This conference is the latest in a series where novel developments in the acquisition, formation, analysis and display of medical images are presented, discussed, dissected, and extended. Over the last four decades, IPMI has evolved with the medical imaging community it serves.

Today IPMI is widely recognised as a preeminent international forum for presentation of leading-edge research in the medical imaging field including the following topics:

Image Analysis and Signal Processing
Shape Representation and Analysis
Image Registration and Fusion
Functional and Molecular Imaging
Image Acquisition Methods and Devices
Computational Physiology
Data Visualization
Statistical and Mathematical Models
Image Reconstruction
Image Interpretation and Computer Aided Diagnosis
Imaging and Genomics
Objective Assessment of Image Quality
Image Guided Surgery

The objective of IPMI 2019 was to continue to nurture and encourage contributions from students and junior faculty with the hope that exchanges between the newer and the more established members of the research community will strengthen the scientific program and the field of biomedical imaging in general.

IPMI 2019 Award winners:

[Erbsmann Prize]
Sara Garbarino, Modeling and Inference of Spatio-Temporal Protein Dynamics Across Brain Networks
[Poster Awards]
Magdalini Paschali, Manifold Exploring Data Augmentation with Geometric Transformations for Increased Performance and Robustness
Jian Wang, Data-Driven Model Order Reduction For Diffeomorphic Image Registration

This conference is endorsed by the MICCAI Society.
